Pool Builder: How to choose the right one for you.

Making the decision to install a swimming pool in your backyard is an exciting one. The next step is to find the right pool builder to help you transform your backyard. Like pools, pool builders come in all shapes and sizes. The company that built your neighbor’s pool may not be right for your project. You should take your time selecting a swimming pool company. Do your research. Ask a lot of questions. Finding a good partner will help those pool dreams come true with a whole lot less stress.

Here are some tips for finding the right pool builder for you.

  1. Check out your pool builder’s portfolio.

When considering a pool company, take the time to look through the projects on the website. Do you see pools like the one you envision for your backyard? Though most builders can install a wide range of in-ground pools, after a while you’ll start to see that many tend to specialize in certain types of swimming pools. If you seek a cliff-side pool with an infinity edge, select companies that have a few of these types of projects on their website. If you’re looking for rock water slides and kid-friendly features, find companies that have examples of these. If you see samples of what you want on the website, chances are much better that you will get the pool design you desire.

  1. Research the company’s expertise.

Find out how long the company has been in business. Ask how many pools they build a year. Will the owner be working with you? Is there a project supervisor who will oversee the build and be your point of contact? Essentially, find out as much as you can about the company’s history and their work process. What happens if something goes wrong? How do they rectify the situation? These are all things you want to know and consider up front.

  1. Ask around.

Before contracting with a company, ask for references. Reputable companies will be happy to provide them. You can also check online reviews, but be careful of the websites you use. Some are better at vetting illegitimate reviews than others. The good old fashioned Better Business Bureau is also a valuable resource.

  1. Get a free consultation.

While you shouldn’t expect a pool builder to offer you a pool design for free, reputable companies will discuss your project and give you some ballpark figures. These discussions can be very helpful in deciding what pool company best fits your needs and budget.

Pacific Sun Pool & Spa is happy to provide a free consultation. If you’re in the San Diego area, give us a call. We’d love to make your pool dreams come true.
