Fun Swimming Pool Games
When the hot summer months roll in, the pool is the best place to go to beat the heat. Whether you’ve had a pool for years or you’re getting one installed by a pool company in San Diego, you’ll be all set to cool off and relax when the temperature starts to rise. Kids love swimming, and playing swimming pool games with your kids is a great way to get some exercise and spend quality time together.
Marco Polo
The time-tested classic, Marco Polo, is a simple, yet addictively fun pool game. One player closes their eyes and attempts to catch one of the other players. Their only method of tracking down the other’s locations is by shouting out, “Marco!” The other players must respond with “Polo” as the seeker attempts to find and nab them. It’s important to keep safety in mind when playing Marco Polo. Seekers can’t see, so players need to be sure to warn them if they’re getting too close to the hard edge of the pool.
Pool Basketball
Most outdoor stores sell basketball sets designed for the pool. These can be floating platforms that sit on the water or sturdy hoops that can be installed at the edge of the pool. A game of pool basketball encourages teamwork and helps develop hand-eye coordination. Pool basketball should only be played in the shallow end.
Cannonball Contest
A cannonball occurs when a swimmer jumps into the pool while curling into a tight ball. They hit the water with as much force as they can muster in an attempt to make a giant splash. A cannonball contest to see who can make the biggest splash, or smallest splash, brings out the competitive nature in kids.
