The Evolution of Swimming Pools
When we think of pools, we think of artfully crafted pools with water features that spout and cascade, offering our own private oasis. As we look back at the evolution of swimming pools, that hasn’t always been the case. Pools have been around for centuries but were mainly used for bathing. In recent history, swimming pools have been molded gradually into what we currently know within the pool industry.
The Rise of Competition Swimming Pools
During the 18th century in Britain, there was a boom of competitive swimming. It was a sport that would gain world wide notoriety and give way to having swimming pools in our very own backyard.
First Pools in the US
One of the first swimming pools made in the US was the Deep Eddy in Texas. According to www.deepeddy.org, “Deep Eddy began simply as a swimming hole in the Colorado River that flows through Austin. Cold springs rose from the river banks and people swam in the river where a large boulder formed an eddy.”
Modern Swimming Pools
According to swimmingpool.com, swimming pools became mainstream after World War II and were often viewed as part of the “American Dream.” Here we would see a continue revolution in pool and home design to what we know and love today.
